Urban Nirvana

I always get really excited about posting new projects right after I finish shooting them. Unfortunately, most of the time, I have to wait for the project to be completed before I can share the images and then it takes me FOREVER to post them. Sorry...

In May, I had the chance to shoot for Urban Nirvana Spa and Salon. They have locations throughout SC, and were needing some advertising images to promote their salon. I spent all day at their Columbia location shooting, and we got some AMAZING stuff. The stylists and models we super laid back and very talented at doing their thing.

We shot for several different types of ads, one being billboards. This was probably what I was most excited about seeing, since it would be my first as a photographer. I distinctly remember the moment I was driving down the road and there it was, one of my images, larger than life. What a great feeling!

Anyway, enough rambling, here are the three billboards. They are in the rotation on the giant LED billboard off of Woodruff Road near The Shops at Greenridge (for all you Greenville citizens).

Help-Portrait

I made a lame/half-hearted attempt to give away portrait sessions last year around the holidays. I got the word out late and didn't do a very good job of presenting it.

I'm excited this year to be a part of Help-Portrait. I would love to meet up with other photographers in the area and figure out a good space to do this. If you are interested, please contact me so that we can get the ball rolling and get things organized.

I've always been fascinated by street performers. It amazes me how talented many of them are. I'm really excited to see The Soloist where Jamie Foxx plays a street performer who gets rediscovered.

Anyways, I came across this video on Caleb Chancey's Blog and I thought it was so inspiring and such a brilliant idea, that I just had to share.

Trey Rollins will be hosting a CD Release Concert this coming Friday (3/27) at The Channel. I would strongly encourage yo to come if you can. It promises to be a night of great music and loads of fun (seriously, I will be setting up a photo booth, which is always CRAZY!)

I kicked off the '09 wedding season last weekend in style and in the snow! That's right, the SNOW!

I traveled to Marietta, GA to shoot Christine and Austin's wedding, and I must say they could be the bravest/most go-with-the-flow bride and groom ever! Seriously, it was FREEZING outside and all Christine ever asked for was her fur wrap every now and then to cover her bare arms and prevent them from hypothermia. Austin was a trooper too, but he at least had a coat on the whole time.

One of My New Years Resolutions...

...is to SHOOT MORE! In fact I am challenging myself to shoot EVERY DAY. My hope is that it will broaden my creativity and make me a better photographer. I have set up a blog where I will post a new image everyday. I didn't want it to be JUST another photo blog, so I've set it up where everyone can get involved and help out an amazing organization.

Lauren and Jon- Engaged!

A few weeks back I had the chance to head down to Charleston to shoot Lauren and Jon's engagement photos. Charleston is becoming my favorite place to shoot. There are just SO many different cool places to shoot, and I always stumble upon some side street that just blows my mind. Lauren and Jon are getting married NEXT December at The Citadel, so I am SUPER excited about heading back to Charleston to shoot the bridal session and the wedding.

I had a blast hanging out with Lauren and Jon (and some of Jon's family even hung out with us!) as we just walked around Charleston looking for good light and great locations, which we definitely found.

Trey Rollns' Album has Arrived!

The regular readers may remember the trip I took to Nashville in May to document the recording and production of Trey Rollins' new album, On the Mend. Well, the album is finished and ready for your ears to enjoy.

Free Christmas Card Photo Shoots this Weekend

Now that the Economy is "officially in a recession," and there are only 20 more shopping days til Christmas, I've decided to give everyone a gift (or at least the ones that claim it first).

This weekend I will be shooting Christmas card photo sessions FOR FREE!!! NO STRINGS ATTACHED. YOU DON'T HAVE TO COMMIT TO BUY ANYTHING.

Here are the details:

Dates/Times: Saturday (12/6) 9AM-12PM AND Sunday (12/7) 2PM-4:30PM
Location: Wyche Pavilion next to Larkins on the River 318 S. Main Street

The sessions will be 20 minutes long, booked every half-hour. I can shoot a lot of photos in 20 mins! It can be a large family photo or just your kids. We can also do smaller individual groupings if you have a large family.

What you get in the free session:
- the shooting, of course
- an online gallery of all of the professionally color corrected images, for you to proof the images and share with your family and friends

IF you like any of the shots, there are several options for getting the images.

You can...
buy prints of any of the images (4x6=$5, 5x7=$10, 8x10=$25, 11x14=$50)
buy a high-resolution disc of the images and print them yourself or use to design your own card (a single image on disc is $25 and all of the images on a disc is $125)

AGAIN YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO BUY ANYTHING!

Here are a few of my favorite images from Seceli and Bo's wedding on October 25th.

I love shooting outdoor weddings, especially in the early fall when the heat is not unbearable. The ceremony and reception took place in the lower outdoor section of the Kilgore Lewis House, and the weather was perfect (despite Greenville's all star cast of meteorologists' prediction of rain...)

It was a very laid back day and every aspect of the wedding seemed to just flow, thus making my job much easier.

Some of you (probably only 2 of you) might remember this post about Polaroid bowing out of the instant film industry and how deeply saddened I was to hear the bad news. Well...there has been a bit of a fresh wind blown in my sails.

I would like to introduce you to my latest brilliant discovery, Poladroid. I realize that there's a good chance that some of you may have beaten me to this gem, however I must let the rest of you know how awesome this program is. Here are a few reasons why I {heart} Poladroid:

#one- IT'S FREE!!! (aka not 1 George Washington everytime you push the magic button)

#two- It is SUPER easy to use. Seriously you just drag and drop any of your jpeg's onto the little
camera and it spits out a polaroid.

#three- you actually have to wait as the picture develops. (you can grab it and "shake it", but that's never really worked in real life despite what Outkast has told you)

#four- after you've done 10 images, you are done and you have to restart the program- just like the good old days when you had to take the huge metal case out of the camera and throw it away, but this time there's no waste (somewhere Al Gore is grinning from ear to ear right now)

Now I will be the first to admit that it's not the same as having the real thing in your hands, but it's close enough for you to fall in love with. I've been playing around with it (a lot) for a few days. I haven't printed anything yet, but it exportss a fairly decent hi-res file, so it probably looks pretty good printed out. I should also point out that it's only available for Mac currently, but I'm pretty sure a PC version is in the works.

Needless to say, you should go to the website and download your copy NOW!

Wild Sweet Orange

If truly great music was a kingdom, Wild Sweet Orange would be the royal family and Preston Lovinggood would be king.

I had the chance to go up to Charlotte Tuesday night and see WSO perform live. If you EVER have the opportunity to go see them live, do YOURSELF a favor and GO. There new album, We Have Cause to be Uneasy is fantastic; GO BUY IT, but nothing compares to seeing them play in person. Their passion and energy is contagious and I promise you will never see them "phone it in."

Preston and I met in college. We went to/interned at the same church. I had never met, nor will I ever meet, someone as unique and flat-out genuine as Preston. It had been almost three years since I'd seen him, so it was great to briefly catch up and hang out. And, of course, I showed up at the concert armed with an arsenal of cameras, so here's some visual memoribilia from Tuesday's show.

I hope everyone is fortunate enough to have the chance to see them live!

Fact. I always have a camera with me. (most of the time, I have 3!)

And I'm not talking about when I am working (as matter of fact I have 3 different cameras I carry when doing a professional shoot). So there's a chance I could be wielding six (6!) cameras at any given time. Ok, so maybe I have a problem.

I guess I am paranoid that I will be crippled without one if some spectacular "Kodak Moment" were to happen. Anyway, my intention was not to turn this into a therapy session for paranoia or addiction, so moving on......

One of my favorite cameras is a German "spy" camera called the Minox 35.

Here's mine (shot with a Yashica T4, which is my newest addition to the arsenal) beautifully displayed on a table at McDonald's.

This camera is TINY and it takes wonderful photos on 35mm film (Yes I shoot film).
It has an amazing lens (the same one that's in a LOMO) that retracts in and out of the camera body when you open or close the drawbridge like door.

I am in love with this camera.

Here's a shot I took of our friends' daughter at a swim meet. The Minox was all I had, and man did it rise to the occasion!

This is my favorite shot I've taken in a long time. I've got to shoot film more often.

There are around 2.5 Million child sex slaves worldwide.
300,000 of those are in the United States.
14,000 are in the Atlanta area alone, which is less than 2 hours away from me.

These statistics are shocking, sickening, and downright heart-breaking for me. I struggle to wrap my mind around the whole sex trafficking industry, but regardless of how hard it is to understand, it is a disgusting reality.

We must do something to end it.

I have had the privilege to work with Free Chains, a wonderful organization committed to raising awareness about this issue, help to put an end to sex trafficking, and most importantly provide places for children rescued from sexual slavery to begin to heal and get back what's left of their innocence and identity. As of right now there are very few places, if any, for these rescued children to go. The goal is to raise $65,000 to purchase a safe house to facilitate the healing and raise awareness about the presence of sex trafficking.

They officially launched their website today, and I urge you to check it out and discover ways you can help.

Ayesha & Jim

I traveled up to Asheville, NC Saturday for Ayesha & Jim's wedding. The ceremony was in the garden of The Richmond Hill Inn, which was absolutely beautiful. Ayesha looked stunning and beautiful as well (proven by the shots below).

I enjoyed being able to capture their special day. I was honored to be a part of such an exclusive event (seriously they only allowed family to attend, very Hollywood!!!)

Anyway, here are a few shots from the day.

Great location for a weekend getaway if you need break.

Amber & Quinn

I shot Amber and Quinn's Wedding this past Saturday. The wedding was outdoors and the weather was absolutely beautiful, that is, until Amber walked down the aisle. That's when the rain came... No worries, though, we all just moved inside the reception pavilion and finished up.

Amber and Quinn both have contagious smiles and an overall contagious joy and laid-backness (not even a real word) about them. Every one at the wedding kept saying how much they were truly made for one another, and I could not agree more!

I cannot believe how long it's been since my last post! Sorry....

I've been busy lately, mostly shooting/editing weddings. I can't adequately express how much I love my job and how much I love the brides and grooms I have the opportunity to work with. It's really cool to be a part of their special day and see their unique personalities come out in the photos.

I had the opportunity to travel to Charleston (my favorite place in SC) and shoot Alicia and Drew's wedding. They both work/live in DC, but wanted to have a wedding somewhere else so they chose Charleston. It was a beautiful day and we got some amazing shots around downtown Charleston.

We found the perfect spot to do an Abbey Road tribute (I later realized they are walking in the opposite direction, I'm a terrible Beatles fan, I know.)

Alicia's little sister (front&center) loved doing this shot, as you can see.
